'Dearly Beloved' Isn't for Everyone--Making 'I Do' Feel Like You

Choosing your officiant is more than checking a box—it's choosing the person who will set the tone for one of the most important moments of your life. With over 20 years of experience, I don't just "conduct” weddings; I craft ceremonies that feel authentic, engaging, and memorable (and yes, legal too).

Understanding the Role of a Wedding Officiant

A good officiant doesn't just show up and read a script. I get to know you, write your ceremony with care, and guide the flow so everything feels natural—not stiff or cookie-cutter. I take time to learn about you as a couple, then craft a ceremony that reflects your values, vision, and style—whether that's lighthearted and playful, spiritual and reverent, or a blend of traditions.

My role includes:

• Designing a ceremony that reflects your personalities and story

• Helping you write or polish vows (without making them sound like bad Hallmark cards)

• Managing the ceremony details so you can actually enjoy the moment

• Making sure all the legal stuff is squared away

Choosing someone who understands your vision and can communicate it effectively is essential. For example, if you want a lighthearted and fun ceremony, look for an officiant with a warm and engaging style. If you prefer a solemn and spiritual event, a religious officiant might be the best fit.

How to Find the Perfect Wedding Officiant

When searching for an officiant, it's important to find someone who is not only legally qualified but also experienced in establishing the right tone for your special day. My couples often tell me that my warm, engaging presence made them feel at ease from our very first conversation. Goals! During our planning, I guide you through options, offer sample ideas, and help you shape a ceremony that fits you perfectly.

Here are some practical steps to guide you:

1. Start Early and Ask for Recommendations -
Begin your search as soon as you have confirmed your wedding date. Ask friends, family, or your venue for recommendations. Many couples find their officiant through word of mouth or online reviews.

2. Check Credentials and Experience -
Make sure your officiant is legally authorized to perform weddings in your state. Experience matters, especially if you want a smooth ceremony without surprises. Ask about the number of weddings they have officiated and if they have experience with your type of ceremony.

3. Meet in Person or Virtually - Schedule a meeting to discuss your expectations, ceremony style, and any special requests. This is your chance to see if you feel comfortable with their personality and approach.

4. Discuss Fees and Services - Understand what is included in the fee. Some officiants offer comprehensive planning support, vow writing assistance, and rehearsal attendance, as well as pre-marital counseling, while others provide a more basic service.

By following these steps, you can narrow down your options and find someone who will make your ceremony truly special. I hope it's me!

Personalizing Your Wedding Ceremony

Every couple deserves a ceremony that feels uniquely theirs. I love weaving in personal touches—your own vows, cultural traditions, readings, rituals, or even lighthearted moments that make your guests laugh. My goal is to create a balance of meaning and flow so that you and your guests feel both engaged and moved.

Making the Final Decision

After meeting with several officiants and reviewing your options, it's time to make your choice. At the end of the day, your decision comes down to trust and connection. Do you feel heard? Do you feel comfortable? Do you feel confident your officiant can bring your vision to life? When couples choose me, it's often because they want someone who listens deeply, writes thoughtfully, and brings both professionalism and warmth to their wedding day. Trust your instincts and consider the following:

  • Connection: Do you feel comfortable and confident with this person?

  • Professionalism: Are they organized, punctual, and communicative?

  • Flexibility: Are they willing to accommodate your wishes and ideas?

  • Reputation: Do they have positive reviews or testimonials?

Creating a Memorable Ceremony Experience

I show up early, coordinate with your vendors, and keep everything flowing so you can focus on each other. My goal is simple: create a ceremony that feels effortless for you, heartfelt for your guests, and unforgettable for everyone. Here are some tips to ensure your ceremony is unforgettable:

  • Communicate Clearly: Keep your officiant informed about any changes or special requests.

  • Practice Together: Attend the rehearsal and run through the ceremony to avoid surprises.

  • Trust Their Expertise: Allow your officiant to guide the flow and timing.

  • Enjoy the Moment: Relax and focus on the significance of the day.

Choosing the right officiant isn't just about filling a role—it's about finding someone who can bring your love story to life. That's what I love doing, and I'd be honored to do it for you.

With joy,
